Jonathan specialises in AI, software, computing and telecommunications fields.
While at university, he was sponsored by British Telecommunications plc and worked in their Natural Language and Cybernetics groups where he was a researcher in artificial intelligence programming methods, particularly neural networks and genetic programming.
Jonathan has particular expertise in drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the computer sciences and business method areas and is able to offer advice based on practical experience as well as theoretical knowledge in fields including artificial intelligence, computer networking, computer systems and data communications. Jonathan works with large numbers of start-ups and spin-outs, which involves significant amounts of strategic guidance and pragmatic advice.
Having completed the D.U. Contentieux des brevets en Europe at the University of Strasbourg, Jonathan is qualified for the European Patent Litigation Certificate which gives UPC rights of representation.
Jonathan is a member of the BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT. He is active in promoting IP awareness in UK IT companies and also works with accelerators and incubators including Masschallenge, FastForward and SEED. He is a TechLondon Advocate.
He regularly speaks on IP issues and has been invited by WIPO to lecture on best practice in IP capture, prosecution and management. One presentation is available here.
Jonathan is the Secretary of the BCS Entrepreneurs Specialist Group and also acts a a mentor for a number of tech startups and startup accelerators.
